How to identify and deter slugs.
Slugs (alongside snails) are the number one pest problem in gardens.
Identifying
Slugs are nocturnal, and prefer cool damp and dark spots, and often will leave slime trails back to their entry point. They can be found all year round.
Deter
There are several ways to deter slugs:
- Coarse grit and other barrier materials
- Traps such as beer
- Cooper tape around pots
- Gel repellents
- Biological control agents
- Slug pellets (apply slug pellets thinly to avoid risk of poising wildlife and pets, as some pellets may be toxic in larger quantities)
