New year, new garden.

As we welcome the new year, the days begin to get longer, the garden will start to grow, and spring flowers may begin to make their appearance. Enjoy the fresh air, and check that your winter protection is still in place after any severe weather.

Things to do this month:

  • Go for a walk and see which plants are in flower in your garden.

  • Insulate outdoor containers from frost.

  • Raise containers onto pot feet to prevent waterlogging.

  • Avoid walking on frosty or snow-covered lawns, to prevent damaging the grass.

  • Keep bird feeders topped and defrost bird baths.

  • Turn your Christmas tree branches into garden mulch, and the trunk into log pile for wildlife.

  • Clean garden tools and review all your equipment.
